Framing Textiles
Stonehenge appreciates the importance of being a custodian of fine art. We are committed to preserve your textile artwork by using the least invasive treatments possible for each piece.
We recognize that a work of art is more than the sum of its parts and can only be enjoyed by respecting the original intent of the artist. While a work of art can be timeless, the materials used are vulnerable to age and environmental conditions.
Framing methods used for textiles have a significant effect on their preservation. The shadow box lining and backing must be acid-free to prevent deterioration. A spacer is used to keep the glass from touching the artwork, often treasured needlepoint or embroidery. Needlework is a link between past and present. At Stonehenge, your textile is hand-stitched to the backing; the stitching is non-invasive and reversible if ever the need arises.
